Many of my poems come from a desire to see children, and adults, realise their own full potential, and not allow a lack of confidence to hold them back. One such poem (I Can’t) started as a conversation with my daughter when she was upset at ‘failing’ to get something right on her first attempt, therefore concluding that she “couldn’t do it”. I used this at the beginning of a poetry workshop, when I asked "who can’t write poetry" and a number of hands went up, so I began the poem as a conversation with one of the children, who eventually realised that I was actually reciting a poem!

Maybe therefore the poems opposite might be of use to start a poetry workshop, or to read in assemblies, or just for yours and your children's own encouragement and pleasure.
