Today’s the day for miracles
Led by the U.S.A.
The very first black president
Came into power today.
Imagine going all the way
From slavery to power;
Generations never dared
To dream we’d reach this hour.

But finally the day has come
When all can celebrate,
A Superpower has seen the light.
Although, a little late
For all their ancestors
Who suffered lifelong persecution,
A just alternative arrives
To hateful retribution.

God bless you all, now rest in peace
As new hope for the nation
Comes in the form of
Democratic racial validation.
We cannot make amends for
The past generations’ pain
But now, at last can aim to be
United once again.

This poem celebrates the day that America voted in its first African American president, the 44th President of the United States.

President Barack Obama assumed his office on 20 January 2009.

On 9 October 2009 he also became the 4th US president to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples"
